The up in smoke origin story
Learn more about us
How did we start our welding apparel company? Well, it all started with a hardworking welder that saw a need in his industry. Our founder, Mac Schurr, is a proud Albertan who began working as a welder at the young age of 18. He eventually went on to open his own welding company, Up In Smoke Welding.
In his decade of working in welding, Mac was just not impressed at how welders gear doesn't fit their harsh working environment. All of his work clothes seemed to wear out in all of the same spots, and no matter how he layered, he couldn't find the protection he needed. So, we created an option for all welders to have safety gear created for them.
Up In Smoke Welding Apparel made its first sale in February of 2015 and has now grown to the company's current size and reputation. We are now proudly worn by welders across the world and have various styles of safety jackets, pants, and branded apparel.
Focused On Safety & Style
safety is our priority
Up In Smoke Welding Apparel is here to provide safety gear explicitly designed for welders and tradesmen. We want to give welders safety gear that meets their needs, looks good and outperforms anything else on the market. We're also here to refresh the industry standard for workwear and create stylish, unique options in other colorways. Welders work in a challenging environment, so you need your safety apparel to work hard with you. We are focused on safety, style and getting you home to what matters most.

Our Design Process
We focus on quality designs
Our company has always cared about customer feedback and listening to actual welders working in the field. After all, our apparel is explicitly built for welders and here to address their needs.
Our founder Mac, takes time to listen to the problems other welders are having in the field and then creates an apparel design to fix it. We hear you, and we're here to help you find a solution.
Keeping Welders Safe
We work with a local designer to create each Up In Smoke Welding Apparel product, so it works to keep welders safe in the field and performs exceptionally. But more than that, it also looks and feels good. Every single product we carry has been field-tested, industry-vetted, and worn by actual welders worldwide.
Innovating New Products
We are always innovating new products to meet the continually changing work environment that welders work in. We know that every job and worksite is different and has its own unique challenges and requirements. Whether you're doing a job in Texas or British Columbia, we have safety gear to accommodate you.
We believe in providing high-quality products that keep you stylish, but above all, safe in the work environment.
Getting you Home To what matters most
Welding gear that works as hard as you
At Up In Smoke Welding Apparel, we believe in getting you home to what matters most. Let's face it. Welding can be a dangerous job. Welders put themselves on the line every day to handle difficult and hazardous jobs. Having the right safety gear to protect you can make the difference between a serious accident and getting home safe.
So, what matters most to you? For us, it's family. Our company is family-owned and operated. Every day, Mac works hard to get back home to his wife and kids. But what drives you to work hard every day, and what do you value most about your life?
Up In Smoke Welding Apparel, above everything else, wants to make sure you can go to work, weld hard, get the job done, and then get home to what matters to you. That is our top priority, and you'll see it reflected in the products we create.
